Travel to Kenya

Kenya, located in East Africa, is easily accessible from major international hubs. Nairobi is served by Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), one of Africa’s busiest airports, with direct connections to Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and other parts of Africa.

VISA
Kenyan authorities introduced an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system for all foreign visitors. Travellers must apply for an eTA online before departure via the official government portal. The process typically requires:

  • A valid passport (minimum six months before expiry),

  • A recent passport-size photograph,

  • Travel details, including flight and accommodation information,

  • A credit or debit card for the processing fee.

Citizens of the East African Community (EAC) countries are exempt from the eTA requirement and they can enter Kenya without a visa.

It is advisable to apply for the eTA at least a month before travel and to carry a printed or digital copy of the approval when entering Kenya.

Health & Safety Information

Health Requirements
Travellers to Kenya are advised to ensure that their routine vaccinations are up to date before travelling. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry if you are arriving from, or have transited through, a country where yellow fever is present. Additional recommended vaccinations include hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus.

It is also advisable to take precautions against mosquito bites, as malaria is present in some parts of Kenya. Consider consulting your doctor about suitable antimalarial medication.

Safety Recommendations
Nairobi is a welcoming and vibrant destination, and both Nairobi and the Safari Park Hotel are considered safe for visitors. However, as in any major city, it is important to exercise normal caution. All EAIF 2026 participants are responsible for their own personal safety and belongings during their stay.

We recommend using licensed taxis or hotel-arranged transport for all local travel. Avoid walking alone late at night and keep valuables discreet. For comfort and convenience, participants are encouraged to book accommodation in reputable, international, or well-established hotels.
