Workshop VIII: Launch of the guidance materials & support tools for compliance with ESG standards for the African mini-grid sector
- Mini-grids
This workshop marks the official launch of ESG Guidance Materials, Capacity-Building Frameworks & Support Tools developed by IED under the AfDB, IFC, and ARE initiative for the African mini-grid sector. The outputs are grounded in a rigorous assessment of how mini-grid developers navigate AfDB and IFC ESG standards, informed by one-on-one interviews with developers and financiers, as well as a structured consultation process with the Technical Engagement Group (TEG) — a network of 70 mini-grid developers, financiers, and industry associations.
Presented at EAIF 2026 as the project's dedicated dissemination event, the session will showcase how the materials translate complex ESG requirements into practical, actionable steps for day-to-day operations. Designed to encourage discussion, uptake, and institutionalisation across the sector, the tools serve as reference resources for strengthening compliance, risk management, and investment readiness. Participants will also be introduced to the ARE Project Hub, where the full suite of materials will be hosted to ensure long-term accessibility.
