[Invite only: TEI OP-VET workshop] Skills development in renewable energy investment & related value chains
The renewable energy sector in sub-Saharan Africa is experiencing significant growth and potential for decent job creation, yet it faces substantial skills gaps across various segments of its value chain. This session will highlight the critical role of skills development in attracting and retaining investment in renewable energy projects. By bringing together industry leaders, vocational education and training (VET) actors, policymakers and development partners, the discussions will explore industry trends, address the skills gaps, showcase good practices and highlight the role of public private collaboration to build sustainable skilled workforce.
The regional Team Europe Initiative Opportunity-driven Skills and Vocational Education and Training in Africa (TEI OP-VET) is a five-year programme (2024-2029), officially launched in April 2024 during the Global Gateway High-Level Event on Education in Brussels. By linking VET and skills development with investments and value chain developments, the action addresses the skills dimension as integral component and enabler of investments under the Global Gateway to unlock the employment potential created by these investments and related sector/value chain developments. The programme is funded by the European Commission (€ 75 million) and Germany (BMZ) (€ 1.05 million) and is jointly implemented in a Team Europe approach by EDUFI (Finland), Enabel (Belgium), Expertise France and GIZ (Germany).
