Tamarso Energy
About
Tamarso Energy is a Somali-founded renewable energy company operating across two complementary business lines in Sub-Saharan Africa:
Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Solar Tamarso designs and deploys behind-the-meter solar and battery storage systems for commercial and industrial customers — including businesses, institutions, and anchor facilities such as telecom towers, hospitals, and cold chain operators. These systems reduce clients' dependence on expensive diesel generation, lower operating costs, and provide reliable power in grid-constrained or off-grid environments. The C&I segment operates across Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
Green Mini Grids Through its Tamarso Green Mini Grids division, the company develops and operates hybrid solar-BESS minigrid power plants serving rural and peri-urban communities. Tamarso's signature approach — the Reverse Anchor Minigrid — uses high-consumption anchor loads (hospitals, cold chain, telecoms) to cross-subsidise household connections, making last-mile electrification commercially viable in fragile markets. Complementary models include Brownfield hybridisation of existing diesel systems and Repower rehabilitation of decommissioned solar assets.
