About me

Bettina Baesch Ssemwaka has been serving as Head of Component at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Uganda since 2020. With over 20 years of extensive experience, Bettina has demonstrated remarkable leadership in international humanitarian relief, recovery, and development programmes benefitting refugees, internally displaced persons, and local communities across Uganda. At GIZ she has led innovative projects that expand renewable energy access in refugee settlements and hosting districts in Northern Uganda and Kiryandongo. Her efforts have driven market development and fostered improved framework conditions enabling sustainable and high-quality clean cooking and solar energy solutions for households, social institutions and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. Bettina is dedicated to shaping a brighter and more sustainable future for refugee and vulnerable communities.
