About me

Anthony Walter Okello – Renewable Energy Specialist

Anthony is a seasoned Renewable Energy Specialist with extensive experience in promoting sustainable energy solutions, advocating for policy reforms, and driving carbon project development. With a strong background in project coordination, technical advisory, and stakeholder engagement, Anthony has played a pivotal role in advancing clean energy access across East Africa.

Currently serving as a Project Coordinator at Ashden, Anthony leads the implementation of the Transforming Humanitarian Energy Access (THEA) programme, supporting refugee-led clean energy initiatives in Uganda, Ethiopia, and Kenya. In this role, Anthony works closely with programme partners to secure funding, drive advocacy for inclusive energy financing, and engage with key stakeholders in the climate, humanitarian, and energy access sectors.

Prior to joining Ashden, Anthony worked as an Energy Advisor at GIZ-Uganda (Energy and Climate Cluster), where he spearheaded Enabling Environment Interventions under the Energizing Development (EnDev) project. He provided technical assistance to government agencies, supported sector associations in advocacy efforts, and facilitated the development of bankable projects for SMEs, particularly in biodigesters and clean cooking energy solutions.

Anthony also gained significant expertise through roles at Biogas Solutions Uganda Limited and Heifer International, focusing on quality management, carbon project development, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement. His work involved overseeing renewable energy installations, conducting training programs for diverse stakeholders, and leading knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Beyond organizational roles, Anthony has undertaken consultancy assignments for UNDP-Botswana and ACROSS-South Sudan, specializing in capacity building and technology assessments. He has actively contributed to industry growth by participating in regional trainings, conferences, and workshops, continuously enhancing expertise in the renewable energy landscape.

With a multifaceted skill set, strong industry network, and passion for sustainable development, Anthony remains dedicated to advancing energy access and fostering long-term impact for communities in East Africa and beyond.
