George Bauer

I am passionate about the role of digital innovation and public-private collaboration in creating new pathways for economic development and climate action.

For the past 6+ years, I have worked for the GSMA, the industry association representing the mobile ecosystem worldwide.

I currently lead the GSMA Climate Tech and Digital Utilities programmes' insights and advocacy teams with colleagues based across Africa, Asia, and Europe. Both programmes are focussed on enabling and supporting digital innovations that provide sustainable solutions to some of the most pressing development challenges in low- and middle-income countries. We provide expertise to and facilitate partnerships between key public and private sector stakeholders, provide catalytic capital to private sector innovators, build and share knowledge through research and insights, and advocate for change.

My academic background is in economics and public policy and is complemented by professional experiences in consulting, economic research, development finance, and government.

If I am not working, or spending time with family and friends, I am likely reading history books, playing basketball, debating political developments across Africa, or listening to Congolese Rumba.

Eager to learn, lead, and grow, and driven to make a positive contribution to the economic, political, social, and cultural transformation of African countries.
